Heather Duncan, Choir

Heather Duncan is the middle school and high school chorus teacher. She earned her Bachelor of Music degree in Sacred Voice from the University of Tennessee in 1993, and a Master of Music in Music Education degree also from UT in 2015. She has TN state certification with a music endorsement in grades K-12, as well as ACSI certification, and has been directing choirs for over 20 years in both school and church settings.
She and her husband Bill are both Knoxville natives and have three children, the oldest of which is a 2016 RECA graduate.
Ms. Duncan is very excited about building a choir program at RECA where she looks forward to introducing students and parents to the many benefits of choir participation, which go beyond performing musical work or even developing musical skills and intelligence.
She also believes it is important to be a lifelong learner, and currently sings and plays the bodhrán with the traditional Celtic group, Rich Mountain Celtic, which regularly performs in Townsend, Harriman, and Knoxville.
In addition to music, Ms. Duncan loves to read and to travelShe especially loves historical fictionbiographies, and stories from WWII. Two of her favorites are Martin Luther: The Man Who Rediscovered God and Changed the World by Eric Metaxas and Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand.
She is looking forward to helping students develop their God-given musical talents and using them to demonstrate their love for God and others. Matthew 22:36-4
